With more than 18 years of legal experience, I have led the Legal Department of a financial institution held by a public company, led the Legal Department of a family office holding investments in diverse sectors, participated in several M&A transactions, an IPO process, the purchase of a banking institution in the U.S. by a foreign group of investors, and worked at law firms with international presence, among other achievements. Legal experience mainly in Corporate Governance, Securities Regulations, M&A, Corporate Development, Contracts, Corporate Law, Compensation, Policy Development, Investor Relations, among others. Non-for-profit Board and pro-bono experience.
I hold a J.D. from the Universidad Iberoamericana, in Mexico City, a J.D. from DePaul School of Law, in Chicago, and an LL.M. from Columbia Law School, in New York City.
Patricia Martínez Mateos
Spanish-licensed attorney with international legal experience in Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
With a truly global background, I have developed my career in Madrid, Mexico City, and New York, advising clients across diverse industries and jurisdictions. My practice focuses on corporate and transactional law, including cross-border M&A and corporate governance for U.S., Spanish, and Latin American clients.
Before joining Casanueva Law, I worked at a leading law firm in New York City, where I advised on corporate restructurings, commercial agreements, and cross-border transactions. Previously, I practiced at a law firm in Mexico City, assisting clients in regulatory compliance and transactional matters, and began my career at a Madrid-based firm focused on corporate and business law.
I hold an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center (Washington, D.C.), a Master’s in Business Legal Management from Universidad Villanueva, and dual Master’s and Law Degrees from Spanish universities.
Bringing a bilingual and bicultural perspective, I offer a pragmatic and business-oriented approach to cross-border legal matters, helping clients navigate complex international transactions with efficiency and confidence.
Pablo Múgica Ortiz
Tax attorney who helps private equity and real estate funds, family offices, and companies in the financial services, shipping, and data center sectors navigate complex tax challenges, particularly in the context of US–Mexico cross-border structures.
With over half a decade of experience in tax consulting, I have worked on matters spanning M&A, wealth planning, and tax audits, and I have advised clients on investment structuring, the tax aspects of purchase and credit agreements, and asset acquisitions. My experience includes practicing in New York, giving me firsthand exposure to the US side of cross-border transactions.
I hold a J.D. from Universidad Panamericana, and in 2024 I earned an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center and passed the New York bar exam (admission pending).
